Half Caffeine, Full Flavour

Do you find yourself wanting another coffee, but knowing you’ll regret it later? What if you could have another one or two coffees with all the flavour, but with half the caffeine? This is where 50/50 half caffeine coffee comes in.

Our half caff coffee blends are carefully crafted from a blend of our full-caffeine coffee and high-quality decaf coffees. The result is fantastic-tasting coffee with half the caffeine.

Our first 50/50 was Toffee & Caramel Half Caffeine. It’s smooth and sweet with a big buttery mouthfeel, with toffee and caramel notes that remind me of a particular old-fashioned sweet.

Then came Apple Pie & Custard Half Caffeine, which genuinely surprised me. The first sip was like biting into a warm apple pie with custard, no exaggeration. Even black, it’s naturally crisp & sweet. With milk, it really opens up into a cappuccino or latte with notes of apple pie and custard. It’s a perfect example of what good speciality coffee can do.

Both Toffee & Caramel and Apple Pie & Custard half-caffeine are what I’d refer to as “speciality” taste profiles. So for the next half caff coffee, we wanted a big chocolatey crowd pleaser, similar in taste notes to the Chocolate Brownie blend.

The result is Chocolate Fudge Cake Half Caffeine, which tastes like a big wedge of chocolate fudge cake in a cup! It works brilliantly as espresso, flat white, and also via any brew method, including Aeropress, cafetière & filter.

If you love Chocolate Brownie Blend and/or Chocolate Fondant Blend, and you wish you could drink more of it without ending up bouncing off the walls, give this a try, and you’ll see what I mean!

So if you want to keep enjoying coffee later in the day without going all-in on decaf, these half caff coffee blends are a brilliant middle ground. You’re still getting 100% speciality coffee, but with a gentler caffeine hit.

Happy Brewing,

Kev

Half Caff Coffee FAQs

Q: What is half caffeine coffee?

A: Half caffeine coffee is a blend of full-caffeine beans and decaf beans, approximately 50/50. The result is a coffee that tastes just as good as our other speciality coffees, but with about half the caffeine content.

Q: How much caffeine is in half caff coffee?

A: It varies depending on the beans, but generally, you’re looking at about 50% less caffeine compared to a regular cup. So, if a full-strength cup would give you 100mg of caffeine, a half-caf cup would be around 50mg.

Q: Does half caffeine coffee taste different from regular coffee?

A: Not at all. Because we use the same high-quality speciality coffee beans, the flavour is just as full and distinctive. In fact, many people can’t tell the difference, except in how they feel afterwards.

Q: Can I use half caffeine coffee for espresso?

A: Yes, absolutely. All of our half-caffeine blends are versatile and taste great, whether you’re making espresso, cafetière, filter, or Aeropress. If you enjoy more classic chocolatey espresso, though, you’ll probably love Chocolate Fudge Cake Half Caffeine.

Q: Why choose half caff coffee over decaf?

A: It’s about choice. If you don’t want to cut caffeine completely but would like to reduce your intake, especially later in the day, half caffeine is the perfect compromise. You get all the taste, and some buzz but not the full caffeine hit.

Q: What decaffeination process is used for half caffeine?

A: The decaf in Toffee & Caramel Half Caffeine is decaffeinated using Swiss water decaffeination, for Apple Pie & Custard Half Caffeine, it’s the sugarcane process, and for Chocolate Fudgecake Half Caffeine, it’s the MC process.
