A complex, interesting coffee with lots of tangy, fruity and sweet flavour notes, and a lingering vanilla aftertaste.

For those not familiar with Peaberries, they're a naturally occurring variant caused by a variation in rainfall and heat, in which a coffee cherry has just one oval or round bean instead of the usual pair of beans (seeds). They're more round in shape than a standard coffee bean, hence their "Peaberry" label.

Peaberries can offer concentrated flavours and interesting complexity, although whether the fact that they're peaberries is truly responsible for their superior flavour is a matter of opinion.

The simple fact is, though, these beans taste great!

How it Tastes

When I first tasted this coffee, other than the obvious complexity and tanginess, I found it quite difficult to pin down the most prominent comparative flavour which I like to do when naming coffees, as you'll have noticed.

After a bit more tasting (yup, a tough job, but someone has to do it, hehe) I decided that the most obvious taste comparison is Rhubarb crumble and custard.

There's a really interesting, lingering tangy acidity that reminds me of rhubarb, and a smooth and sweet note which also lingers, and leaves me with a subtle vanilla aftertaste.

Rumukia Farmers Co-operative

This coffee is produced mainly by smallholder farmers in Nyeri County, adjacent to Mount Kenya, processed by the Ndia-ini wet mill, managed by the Rumukia Farmers Co-operative Society.

The farms are mainly family-run and are about half an acre on average, each with around 250 coffee trees.

I'm only just beginning on my pourover journey so still muddling through on things, but i'm slowly getting better and better results. I just made a cup of this coffee and it's easily the best cup of coffee i've ever tasted. Super delicious.

So nice i put it on subscription.

Works great in a ceramic Timemore B75 with Kalita Wave 155.

Thnk you for such a fantastic review, we are so pleased that youhave enjoyed our coffee :-)

Free Coffee

The best Peaberry I've had so far. Unique sweetness with just the right acidity. Smooth with just a small little bitterness lingering on the tongue making you want more.

Smooth and sophisticated!

Brewed as a flat white, these Kenyan beans produce an interesting, smooth coffee with a vanilla finish. A real treat.
I would echo Rob R's review notes below (22/02/24) - this is a lighter roast coffee that works well with milk.

Interesting, I wonder how many other customers enjoy this as a milkie?
